I got to meet an Intertype named Eloise this weekend. These are trays of type matrices (one for each font and point size) and there were dozens more. This is like crack for me. I could stare at this stuff for hours.
Just got home from a screening of Linotype: The Film, directed by Doug Wilson. What a fascinating history: the machine revolutionized the printing industry - newspapers, magazines, books - and within a hundred years of its invention, was made obsolete.
It’s a charming film - I encourage you to see it if possible.
