If you’re not familiar with Gina Carano, welcome to the club. Up until I saw the first trailer for Steven Soderbergh’s Haywire, I’d never laid eyes on her. But when I saw it, it was like having a breath of fresh air knocked out of me. She’s a female action star who looks like an action star instead of some lithe supermodel turned actress who looks like most of the stunts would in reality shatter her waifish arms into bone splinters. So captivated by her in her mixed-martial arts matches, Soderbergh actually built an entire action movie around her, one in which she hands both Charming Potato and Michael Fasschlong their asses.
